We present a wholly new method of air-cleansing by means of ceramic tiles. The Oxigena tiles contains titan oxide (TiO2) which neutralizes gaseous pollutants in the air.
This type of tile was developed for the use in large cities with air polluted by exhaust fumes, to be used for pavements, bathrooms, kitchens and living-rooms. Titan oxide ist most heavily used in Japan where over 500 patents for its application are registered, for example glass or alloys with titan oxide admixture.
Shortly the technology has been used in Italy, but only a handful of patent holders manufacture cement with titan oxide, most notable among them being Global Engineering and Italcenonti. Main customers are state institutions which have proven the efficiency of this method. Mass-production of Oxigena tiles has begun in 2004. The first objects for which it has been used were the town square of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (Italy), a school in Chiasso (Switzerland) and a construction centre in Beirut (Lebanon).
